“Making A Difference In Our Community”

The mission of Avoyelles Hospital in Marksville, “Making A Difference In Our Community”, was well lived in 2011 and is on track for an even greater 2012.

In 2011, Avoyelles Hospital, part of the Louisiana based healthcare family of Progressive Acute Care, experienced strong numbers in numerous areas of patient care delivery. Over 13,574 Emergency Department visits were recorded in 2011, an average of over 37 patients a day. Yet Emergency Department “wait times” remain low making access to critical care convenient and fast in times when life threatening conditions present themselves.

Avoyelles Hospital also recorded 1,600 actual hospital admissions in 2011 for a broad range of health conditions and performed 1,171 outpatient surgical procedures in that same 12 month period. Additionally, the hospital saw the number of outpatient visits reach a level of 28,668, an indication of the importance of the hospital’s outpatient services to the people of Avoyelles Parish and the surrounding region.

A major addition to the growing number of medical specialities being offered by Avoyelles Hospital came mid year as Dr. Jennifer Beil, Gynecology joined the hospital medical staff and Gynecological Services was added to the list of available care options. Dr. Beil’s arrival meant that this specialized and significant service for the women of Avoyelles parish was conveniently available close to home, eliminating long drives for the needed care.

Looking ahead into 2012, Hospital CEO, David Mitchel points to continued growth in the addition of medical specialities with a focus on bringing Orthopaedics and Primary Care physicians to the community and hospital medical staff. Mitchel also cites goals of continued facility and medical technology improvement for 2012, helping meet the growing and changing needs of the community. “Avoyelles Hospital is about taking care of people close to where they live and work. Our Emergency Department and our hospital inpatient and outpatient services stand ready to serve the people who have placed their trust in us as their front line healthcare provider.”
